The development of upgrading plans and strategies in response to local needs, particularly in low-income and dilapidated urban areas, including historic quarters; low-income housing; rapid urban appraisal, stakeholder consultations and community-based participatory processes; institutional development in post-conflict situations; training of young professionals; analysis of survey findings, documentation, visual presentations, graphic design and dissemination.


Planning support to the Afghan Ministry of Urban Development for the safeguard & regeneration of urban heritage (Anna Soave)

In November 2008, Anna Soave and Mona Khechen (DPU 2000) completed a 6-months assignment for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture / Historic Cities Programme (AKTC/HCP), funded by the Italian Trust Fund for Culture and Sustainable Development (ITFCSD), to assist the World Bank in its urban heritage-related activities in Afghanistan.

Neighbourhood Planning in Kabul’s old city (Anna Soave)

Seconded in 2003 by the DPU to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture / Historic Cities Programme (AKTC/HCP), Anna Soave has been working in Kabul for 5 years as an urban planner engaged in hands-on planning in the low-income and war-affected areas of the Old City, in support of AKTC’s on-going rehabilitation programme in Afghanistan.

Anna SOAVE

Anna Soave is an architect/urban planner with more than 10 years of professional experience in physical planning, area upgrading, heritage conservation, institutional development and low-cost housing. Having worked in several developing countries, including post-conflict situations, her interests lies in hands-on planning and capacity-building, with a focus on the application of participatory methods and context-specific approaches for the improvement of dilapidated urban areas.
